about

Damarge were 4-piece band from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK active from 1981 to January 1985. The music here was recorded between 1981 to 1984 and collects all their usable recordings: professionally restored and remastered at Big Noise Studios, Rochford, Essex.

Damarge had a large and loyal following in their day, but they never fully capitalized on their popularity. Their one and only attempt at recording a single ended in farce (all explained in the booklet).

Damarge had an unusual line-up for the time (keys, vox, bass & Latin percussion) and were a cross between period electro / punk and indie with a dash of early Industrial (per Throbbing Gristle). Influences ranged from Killing Joke, The Stranglers, Depeche Mode, New Order, Throbbing Gristle and Tangerine Dream (oh, and Maurice Ravel).

The physical release (CD+DVD in a beautiful box with a separate gatefold sleeve) comes with a 32-page booklet with detailed band history, track-by-track synopsis and recollections of some eventful gigs. You also get a 2-sided mini-poster with pictures and memorabilia.
The region-free DVD has a live performance from 1983 along with numerous extras, including a radio interview and a newly-made video for a 7inch edit of "Bodyrock" - their only professionally recorded track (the sorry tale of that is detailed in the booklet).
Both CD and DVD are housed in a thick LP-style gatefold jacket with their own inner sleeves (comes in both limited box set - 125 copies - and 'standard' editions).
The numbered box set also comes with signed letter-press card inserts by Bruce Leicher (of Independent Projects Press), Bishop, CA and printed on a 1916 Chandler & Price letter-press machine.
